
Red Blood Cell Donation (Single Donor Red Cells)
Red blood cells (RBCs) are a type of blood component responsible for transporting oxygen to various cells throughout the body. Patients who require Single Donor Red Cells for treatment include:
- Patients with blood disorders who need regular transfusions, such as thalassemia or aplastic anemia.
- Patients with rare or special blood types.
- Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to blood (anaphylaxis).

Eligibility for Red Blood Cell Donation:

Age: 17 to 60 years (first-time donors must be under 50 and have donated whole blood at least once in the past year).

Male Donors: Must weigh at least 59 kg and be taller than 155 cm.

Female Donors: Must weigh at least 68 kg and be taller than 165 cm.

Vein Visibility: Clear veins in the arm at the elbow.

Dietary Restrictions: Avoid high-fat foods before donating, such as pork leg rice or chicken rice.

Blood Concentration: Hematocrit (Hct) greater than 40% and hemoglobin greater than 14.0 g/dl.

Health: Must be in good health with no disqualifying medical conditions.
Donation Procedure:
Red blood cell donations are performed using an automated blood component separator (Blood Cell Separator), which collects only red blood cells while returning other components back to the body. The donor receives a 400 ml saline solution to compensate for the blood donated. The process takes about 45 minutes, and donations can be made every 4 months.
